Ever wondered why David was called the “Man after God’s own heart”, yes you heard it right, if you still don’t know this, and if you wanna dig deeper into it, I will write down the verse for you here ...
“the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people,” 1 Samuel 13:14
So the thing is, David was not called a man after God’s own heart after he defeated Goliath, not danced and worshipped God, nor when he became he king of Israel or did any of the things God wanted him to do, he was called a Man After God’s Own Heart even before he was anointed as the ruler of Israel ! He was a nobody in the eyes of the world, but had the most prestigious position in the eyes of God !
When Samuel went in search of the person God wanted to appoint, he looked for someone tall, strong, structured, who fitted the lines of A king, but God said
“The Lord Does not look at the things that people look at. People look at the outward appearance by God looks at the heart” 1 Samuel 16:7
It clearly states God doesn’t look at your pretend play that you do in this world ! Your deep dark intentions is know to him, he values what you value at heart! Your heart matters to him !
There was one thing that I couldn’t go without noticing
“He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features” 1 Samuel 16:12
There was just a verse above that said, God doesn’t look at outward appearance and then there is a verse below which said he was glowing with health and had handsome appearance ! Did you know, your relationship with God would reflect in your health and mental stature ! Your health directly would reflect the way you look ! Glowing, literally shining, such kind of skin is a dream away for many! It clearly showed that David had the peace !
David reflected his relationship with God, and people knew he had God with him
“1 Samuel 16:18 - And the Lord is with Him”
So David was a Man after God’s own heart cause of
1. What he valued in His heart !
2. His calmness and his freshness in God, felt by his peaceful life with God.
3. His life reflecting the very fact that definitely God was with him!
We all strive to be called the man after God’s own heart, sometimes we think to attain a big title like that we need to run a huge marathon, but it is just a 100 metre dash, the basics, God is all about the basics sometimes! What we have in our heart matters, our deepest desires, our craziest intentions, followed by what keeps us calm, are we really calm in God, glowing with his joy and peace lastly our life, simple as a shepherd boy, but known and reflected as a Man who has God with him
